This piece is inspired by Tennessee Williams' short play, This Property is Condemned. It follows a young girl whose home has been destroyed, walking along the train tracks as an existential question about her future—her transition from a girl to a woman—hovers within her words. I chose to take the core theme of this work and weave into it texts by playwright Eve Ensler, exploring the inner worlds of young girls across the globe. What do children know that we, as adults, have forgotten? What strength does a young girl possess to rise from the ruins of a broken home? The ancient language of our earliest years reminds her of what has been destroyed on the outside, yet remains deeply embedded in her DNA as an emotional being, emotional creature.
